Refund policy

Last updated: September 6, 2026

This policy explains how returns, cancellations and refunds work at Just Cook It (“we”, “us”). It applies to every order placed through this store and forms part of our Terms of Service.

Everything we sell is a digital product — downloadable PDF cookbooks and recipe collections. Nothing is printed, packed or shipped, so there is no physical item to send back and no return address.

In short: because your cookbook is delivered instantly, purchases are final once the download has been made available. If a file doesn’t arrive, won’t open, or isn’t what we described, contact us within 14 days and we will fix it or refund you.

1. Why we don’t accept returns

A return means sending goods back so the seller can resell them. That isn’t possible with digital content: once a PDF has been downloaded it cannot be given back, and the copy on your device remains readable. For that reason we do not accept returns or exchanges of digital products.

This does not remove your rights when something is wrong with the product itself — see sections 3 and 8.

2. Cancellation and your right of withdrawal

Before delivery. If you contact us before your download link has been issued, you can cancel your order for any reason and we will refund you in full.

After delivery. Downloads are normally issued within seconds of a successful payment. Consumer law in the EU and the UK gives you a 14-day right to withdraw from a distance purchase, but that right is lost for digital content once delivery has begun with your express consent and your acknowledgement that you lose the right of withdrawal.

By completing checkout you expressly request immediate delivery of your cookbook and acknowledge that you lose your 14-day right of withdrawal once the download is made available to you. We record this consent with your order and confirm it in your order confirmation email. If you would prefer to keep your withdrawal right, do not download the file and email us within 14 days instead.

3. When we do refund

We would rather solve a problem than keep money we haven’t earned. We will refund your order — or replace the file, if you prefer — in any of these situations:

  • You never received your download. The email didn’t arrive and we can’t get it to you after checking the delivery steps in section 7.
  • The file is faulty. The PDF is corrupted, incomplete, unreadable, or pages are missing, and we can’t supply a working replacement.
  • The product isn’t as described. What you received differs materially from the product page — wrong title, wrong edition, a substantially different page or recipe count.
  • You were charged more than once for the same item, or an identical order was placed twice by mistake.
  • You already own it. You bought a cookbook you had previously purchased from us, and you have not downloaded the new copy.
  • The charge wasn’t authorised by you. Contact us straight away and we will refund and investigate.
  • We withdraw a product or cannot fulfil your order for any reason on our side.

Requests under this section should reach us within 14 days of purchase. We still look at later requests, and we always honour longer statutory periods where they apply — we just can’t promise the same outcome once significant time has passed.

4. When we can’t refund

Outside the situations above, and except where the law requires otherwise, sales of downloaded products are final. In particular we can’t refund because:

  • You changed your mind, or bought by accident, after downloading the file.
  • You don’t like the recipes, the writing style, the photography or the layout. Every product page lists the contents and page count, and we’re happy to answer questions before you buy.
  • The cookbook doesn’t suit a dietary requirement, allergy, skill level or equipment set that wasn’t described as part of the product.
  • You expected a printed book. All products are clearly marked as instant digital downloads.
  • Your device, storage or software can’t open a working PDF, and the issue is on your side rather than with the file.
  • You lost the file or the email. We’ll always re-send your download instead — free of charge.
  • The item went on sale, or was later included in a bundle, after you bought it. See section 11.
  • The product has been shared, re-uploaded, resold or otherwise used in breach of its licence.

5. How to request a refund

Email info.redwoodranger@gmail.com with the subject line “Refund request” and include:

  1. Your order number (it starts with #) and the email address used at checkout.
  2. The name of the cookbook the request concerns.
  3. A short description of the problem — and, if the file won’t open, a screenshot of any error message and the device, operating system and PDF reader you tried.
  4. Which of the troubleshooting steps in section 7 you have already tried.

What happens next:

  • We reply within 2 business days, usually sooner.
  • If the problem is technical, we’ll try to fix it first — a fresh link, a repaired file or an alternative format normally solves it within a day.
  • If a refund is the right outcome, we approve it and tell you by email.

6. How refunds are paid

  • Approved refunds go back to the original payment method. We can’t refund to a different card, account or person.
  • We issue the refund within 3 business days of approving it. Your bank or card issuer then takes a further 5–10 business days to post it to your statement; that part is outside our control.
  • Refunds include any sales tax or VAT you were charged.
  • If you paid with a discount code or gift card, the refund is issued on the same basis — the value paid by card returns to the card, and gift card value returns to the gift card balance. Single-use discount codes can’t always be reissued.
  • Once a refund is issued, your licence to use the cookbook ends. Your download links are deactivated and you must delete any copies you hold, including printouts and copies stored in cloud drives or on e-readers.

7. Download problems? Try this first

Most “my order didn’t arrive” messages are email delivery issues, and they’re quick to fix:

  • Check your spam, junk, promotions and updates folders for an email from us.
  • Search your inbox for the cookbook title or for our sending address.
  • Confirm the email address on your order is spelled correctly — a typo at checkout is the single most common cause.
  • If you created an account, sign in and open Account → Orders; your downloads are available there too.
  • Download on a stable connection and open the file with a standard PDF reader. A file that stops mid-download can look corrupted when it is simply incomplete — download it again before assuming it’s faulty.
  • Still stuck? Email info.redwoodranger@gmail.com with your order number and we’ll re-send your download.

Your download links stay valid for repeat access, and when we publish an updated edition of a cookbook you have bought, you can download the new version free of charge.

8. Faulty or misdescribed content — your legal rights

Nothing in this policy limits or excludes the rights you have under consumer law, and you can always rely on those rights instead of this policy.

  • United Kingdom. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, digital content must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If it isn’t, you are entitled to a repair or replacement and, where that isn’t possible or doesn’t fix the problem, to a price reduction of up to the full amount paid.
  • European Union. Under Directive (EU) 2019/770 on digital content and services you have a right to have non-conforming content brought into conformity, and to a proportionate price reduction or termination of the contract with a refund where that fails.
  • Australia. Our products come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law, including a refund for a major failure.
  • Elsewhere. Your local mandatory consumer protections continue to apply in full.

9. Bundles and multi-book sets

Bundles are sold and priced as a single product. If one file in a bundle is faulty we will replace that file. If the bundle as a whole is faulty or not as described and we cannot put it right, we refund the bundle in full — we don’t issue partial refunds for individual titles inside a bundle, since the bundle price reflects the set.

10. Gift cards

Gift cards are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged for cash, except where local law requires otherwise. They don’t expire. If a gift card was purchased or delivered in error, contact us and we’ll help. Cookbooks bought using a gift card are covered by this policy in the normal way.

11. Price changes and promotions

Prices, discounts and bundle contents can change at any time. We don’t offer price adjustments on completed orders if an item is later discounted, included in a sale or added to a bundle. If a discount code failed to apply because of a fault on our checkout, tell us within 14 days and we’ll refund the difference.

12. Chargebacks and payment disputes

If something is wrong with your order, please email us before contacting your bank — we can almost always resolve it faster than a dispute can. Raising a chargeback for a download you have received and used is treated as a claim under this policy, and we may respond with the order, delivery and download records. Where a chargeback is filed, we may deactivate the related download links and decline future orders from the account.

13. Fraud and abuse

We reserve the right to decline a refund request, cancel an order or restrict access where we reasonably believe a request is fraudulent, is part of a repeated buy-download-refund pattern, or involves sharing, reselling or republishing our files. We’ll always tell you why, and this doesn’t affect any statutory right you have.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes to our products or to the law. The version in force when you placed your order is the one that applies to that order. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
